Psychoeducational assessment
Examination access arrangements, grounded in understanding
A detailed understanding of a student’s cognitive, literacy and numeracy skills, together with their individual learning profile.
The assessment can help determine whether a student meets the relevant criteria for examination access arrangements, enabling them to access examinations on an equal basis with their peers.
Understanding the learning profile
Evidence for appropriate support
Findings are considered as a pattern and in context, so that any recommendations reflect the student’s genuine learning needs.
Patterns of strength and need
Careful consideration of the student’s cognitive profile and the way different areas may influence learning and examination performance.
Reading and written work
Appropriate measures help build a clearer picture of literacy skills and any barriers that may affect access to examination tasks.
Working with numerical information
Numeracy skills are considered alongside the wider profile so that findings reflect the student’s individual learning needs.
The assessment process
Clear, careful and collaborative
Initial information
The reason for assessment, relevant background and the student’s current needs are discussed.
Individual assessment
A one-to-one session of approximately two hours, conducted in English or Greek.
Review of evidence
All findings are considered carefully as part of the student’s complete learning profile.
Confidential report
A comprehensive report outlines the findings and any relevant recommendations.
Following the assessment
A report designed to be useful
Maria carefully considers all available evidence and prepares a comprehensive, confidential report explaining the findings and any relevant recommendations.
With the family’s permission, the report can be shared with the student’s school. The school may then use the evidence when making an application to the relevant examination board for appropriate access arrangements.
The aim is to ensure that any recommended examination support reflects the student’s genuine learning needs and enables them to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities as fairly as possible. Final decisions are made by the school or relevant examination board and cannot be guaranteed by an individual assessment.
